A pair of Georgian Scottish cow horn server spoons

THE MINT IN RYE
A pair of Georgian Scottish cow horn server spoons

These are unusual due to the fact there is a pair. They are generally found as single pieces and much smaller. These items were carved from cow horns in Scotland. They were historically carved by Gypsy travellers who would de-horn cattle on farms in exchange for land for the evening and they were also allowed to keep the horns. They would then turn the horns into trinkets to sell.

The craftsmanship is fantastic. The primitive carving is charming.
They are in overall great condition for their age with a lovely patina and minimal cracking and wear. Very usable.

Initially inspired by the interior at The Mint in Rye (our 15th century holiday let in Rye, East Sussex) and requests to purchase items by clients while staying, we decided to start sourcing and selling so people could do just that.

Based between London and East Sussex we have built up a network of specialist sources that we pull from to create the unique edit that is The Mint in Rye.  We offer a mix of vintage textiles, primitive furniture, curios, first edition books, vintage film posters and antique carved oak.  These are not chosen for their age, but very much for their aesthetic appeal.  The visual still remains true to The Mint interior style, but has broadened to include vintage elements that have the same unique view point.

To view the collection, please contact Barrie on +44 (0)7714 764708.  Dependant on the pieces you are interested in, they may be in East Sussex or in London.
