An Original Painted Irish ‘Sugan’ Armchair IRELAND 19TH CENTURY

A handsome 19TH century Irish ‘Sugan’ low armchair with original painted finish, in a rich ginger tone. Known as the Throne of the Quiet Man, this is particularly pleasing with its scrolled arm rest details and Cupid’s bow back rest. With a newly upholstered rush seat, in the traditional pattern, this lovely piece is in very good, solid condition.

With its relaxed low profile this fantastic piece would look wonderful in front of a fireplace in a contemporary rustic interior.

H80cm (38cm to seat), W49cm, D44cm

Initially inspired by the interior at The Mint in Rye (our 15th century holiday let in Rye, East Sussex) and requests to purchase items by clients while staying, we decided to start sourcing and selling so people could do just that.

Based between London and East Sussex we have built up a network of specialist sources that we pull from to create the unique edit that is The Mint in Rye.  We offer a mix of vintage textiles, primitive furniture, curios, first edition books, vintage film posters and antique carved oak.  These are not chosen for their age, but very much for their aesthetic appeal.  The visual still remains true to The Mint interior style, but has broadened to include vintage elements that have the same unique view point.

To view the collection, please contact Barrie on +44 (0)7714 764708.  Dependant on the pieces you are interested in, they may be in East Sussex or in London.
