Attractive pair of pressed flowers, both collected during the same 1939 expedition by Swedish botanist Torvald Fransson. These are lovely pieces of artwork, both in good vintage condition (with slight discoloration of the paper that is evidence of its pre-war heritage). One is a pressed root, stalk and flower of Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris), an herbaceous perennial that is a wildflower and member of the rose family found in Europe and Greeland. This was collected in Skillingaryd, south Sweden and pressed on 24 May 1939. The second is a root, stalk and flower of an unidentified plant which is a member of the Leguminosae (or pea family) but we think it is probably wood-bitter vetch (given reference to orobus) which grows along the Atlantic coasts of Europe. This was also collected by the same botanist in the same area, pressed on 24 May 1939. (A total of 5 pairs from the same botanist is available.)

The detailed description of the annotations on each page adds to the interest and appeal.

Would look wonderful properly framed or very simply hung on a peg.

Delivery (to mainland UK only): £6 or email us to collect.

After styling and designing luxury hotel and home interiors for 10 years for city clients, I set up ‘the textured room” in 2014 from my home studio here in Sussex. Since then I have been selling vintage and decorative items in the antique hub of Lewes and undertaking a range of interior design commissions in Sussex and beyond.

I love simple interiors that reflect the simplicity of country life and the ease of country living. In today’s busy world, I believe we all have a need to remind ourselves of the beauty of nature and its simplicity, and bring them back into our homes. This is why I love the imperfect and its textures, mixing the old with the new, the natural with the beautifully weathered-by-everyday-life pieces – imperfect pieces that eventually find their perfect place in our homes.

Today, we are selling online and delivering beautiful stripped-back and natural-style homes and premises for our clients. I hope you will like our interiors and our latest handpicked collection of items.
