A pair of mid 19th century Louis XVI gilt chairs

A pair of Louis XVI style giltwood armchairs/fauteuils from around 1850 recently restored to calico awaiting final fabric cover.

Beautifully designed and very comfortable with a wide seat.

The seats have undergone full restoration, with new springs and webbing while keeping the original double horsehair seatpad. These were high quality, beautifully made chairs in their time and we're tried to keep their authenticity as much as possible with traditional French upholstery techniques. Frames are solid but have signs of legacy woodworm and chips to the gilt.

We can provide an upholstery service for the customer's fabric if required.

Vintage France Design is a British and French team of antiques and design enthusiasts who hunt for, import and restore French furniture, homewares and decorative antiques.

We look for fun, quirky, well-made, beautifully designed, rustic and industrial pieces with that all important age and patina.

Vintage France Design is run and managed by Milena and Marcus Frisby from their HQ near the Channel Tunnel with help from their France-based team of hunters.

Milena’s passion for antiques came from her French and American parents who were pioneers in the French architectural reclamation business in the 1970s.

Our searches take us to old houses, fairs and brocantes in far-flung corners of France where we find interesting items to sell for sensible prices via our website.

The images on the homepage of our website are from world-renowned urban explorer photographer Daan Oude Elferink who searches for beauty in decay in old, abandoned European historic buildings. We share his passion for beauty in age within the items that once sat in them.
