The 17th C is known as the Baroque period and the production of art work with biblical themes was high. This particular scene depicts the Virgin Mary and her son Jesus who is presented to the Lord of Jerusalem in the temple. It used to be a common practice among Jews to present their first-born son to God in the temple. The style of the painting is a combination of the Italian Renaissance and the Flemish artistic tradition. Such painting was quite popular in this time period and the theme as well. The painting is framed and signed with the initials of the artist ‘KI’. At the back of the frame there is a hook so the painting can be hung up a wall.

For VINTAGERIOUS Guy Kuypers, the history of his collecting began at the Porte de Clignancourt in Paris with a Napoleon III case filled with Exotic Birds. The colorful birds piqued my imagination and became the beginning of a passion for Natural History, Ethnography, European Works of Art, Antiquities and Curiosities that drive me on all continents, looking for fascinating and rare objects. Whether they are natural or man-made, all have an interesting story to tell.

So, it is finally in this spirit that the collection, which encompasses Natural History,Tribal Art,Paintings & Sculptures and Curiosities from many cultures and periods in history finds its rationale and its roots.
