The 17th C is known as the Baroque period and the production of art work with biblical themes was high. This particular scene depicts the Virgin Mary and her son Jesus who is presented to the Lord of Jerusalem in the temple. It used to be a common practice among Jews to present their first-born son to God in the temple. The style of the painting is a combination of the Italian Renaissance and the Flemish artistic tradition.

Such painting was quite popular in this time period and the theme as well. The painting is framed and signed with the initials of the artist ‘KI’. At the back of the frame there is a hook so the painting can be hung up a wall.
