Item Details

A charming & rare surviving late 19th century hand embroidered black velvet & lined tea cosy. Considering its age & original every day use it is in remarkably good condition with age discolouration & two small holes. It could still be used today with great care, however it is more of a collectors or display item now. English 1880. 

Interestingly the first documented use of a tea cosy in Britain was in 1867. But no doubt they were around long before that date.
