Item Details

This is an antique French hemp sheet which dates to the mid 1800s. It was woven on a narrow 19th century loom and is joined at the centre by a hand stitched seam as was traditional. This is a finer weave hemp, these are rare indeed.


It has simple narrow hand turned hems and a laundry monogram of three little letters worked in red cross stitch. A traditional and charming piece of French textile history; these are really a privilege to own and use.


No thinning, no damage, no softening, no wear, this piece is sturd throughout and is an exceptional find. Freshly laundered and ready for use; no marks.


Colour is a creamy white with warmer beige tones; character you'll never find in a modern, machine made piece.


So useful to have in the cupboard - a great bed cover, tablecloth, sofa throw, curtain.
