Item Description

This interesting enamel sign originated in the 19th century in Rajasthan, specifically Udaipur. It is written in an Indian sub-language of Gujarati. With our translation, we believe it is an old dentists sign as the writing in the green circle translates to: "For teeth and pyorrhea appointment". Pyorrhea is a form of gum disease. The green outlined box contains the translation of: "Ayurveda Research Institute" and "Neemkunj, Udaipur". This tells us where this sign originated and that it had links to the Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is known throughout India as the 'mother of all healing'. It is a healing system which looks at the body as a whole to find the right balance of mind, body and spirit. This holistic science is still used today.

Due to the age of it, there is a bit of rust around the edges but this only adds to the rustic element of this sign.

Dimensions: H - 46cm, W - 30.5cm, D - 1cm.
