Item Details

A fabulous, and complete, late nineteenth century, English copper bain marie set comprising bain marie, trivet, eight graduated saucepans and a double boiler. Every item is marked “BARRON & WILSON 436 STRAND” in an oval stamp. Barron and Wilson were locksmiths, ironmongers and braziers from the mid 18th century until the late 1880’s. They produced high quality copper kitchen ware and they were by Royal Appointment. This set would date from c.1880 and it is rare that a set like this is still all together after 150 years. Each pan has steel handles and small, mushroom shaped brass finials. Originally they would have been tinned on the exterior as well as the interior but the tin has been removed from the outside revealing the copper beneath. The bain marie has folding brass handles, a wired rim, and its’ original copper trivet. It is also marked with the orb and cross symbol used by Benhams so it was probably made by Benhams for retail by Barron and Wilson.
