https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA 19th Century, English copper mould with a large cross to the top. This design is known as the “Alexandra Cross”, as it represents the cross from the Danish flag, and was made as a commemoration of Prince Edwards’ marriage to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863. The mould is stamped with the orb and cross symbol which was used by Benhams and above this it is stamped “REGISTERED APRIL 22. 1863”. It dates from c.1870. Unfortunately this mould does have some faults. There were four holes which have been filled with a coloured filler. This shows on the inside but, due to the colour, it does not show on the outside. There are also a number often pinholes which have not been filled. These holes were all on the high points which also have small dents.
