Item Description
A nice quality, wooden butter print. This is well carved, in beechwood, with a wheatsheaf, and it dates from c.1880. The carving is very well detailed. It is interesting in that, on the reverse of the print, it is stamped “AVERY LTD SHEFFIELD”. Avery were one of the largest manufacturers of scales and weights so why a butter print. Could it have been for use in their kitchens or for functions. There is a small chip on the rim but this has not yet become detached from the print. Otherwise it is in very good condition and the wood has quite a dark patina.
Dimensions: Diameter of print 10cm. Overall length of print and handle 9.8cm.
