Item Description
A 19th century, English copper mould made by Benhams. This is stamped with the orb and cross symbol used by Benhams above the pattern number ‘489’. To the opposite side is a workman’s mark in the shape of a heart. It is also engraved “CAVALRY.CLUB” and would have been purchased for use in the kitchens of this club in Piccadilly, Mayfair, which was established in 1890. The mould is made from a heavy gauge of copper and dates from c.1890. The design consists of eight angular columns with fluted bases. There are a few very tiny dents to the side of the mould but generally it is in very good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is still in good, usable condition.
