Item Details

An early 19th century boxwood sugar or gesso mould carved with a classical scroll design. This is deeply carved and it dates from c.1820. The design could be used either for fancy sugar work or for gesso frames or ornamentation. There is a split to one corner of the face of the mould and further splits emanating from the knots in the wood on the reverse. The wood has a lovely, honey coloured patina.
