Item Description
A nineteenth century, butter mould carved with a swan. This type of mould is known as a butter ejector print. The print is pulled back into the cup, which is then filled with butter, and finally, when chilled, it would be pushed out to produce a pat of butter with the design on the top. This example is well carved, in beechwood and it dates from c.1880. There are four woodworm holes, which have now been treated, and there are a couple of very tiny chips to the end of the handle. Otherwise it is in good condition.
Dimensions: Diameter 9cm. Overall length of cup and handle 16cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
