https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesAn 18th century, French copper hanging pot with embossed decoration. This is embossed with a family crest to one side, which incorporates lions, a crown and a fleur de lys and, to the opposite side, is a large fleur de lys. It has a folding steel handle and the side of the pot is stamped with the initials “P.D” which would also relate to the family for which it was made. It dates from c.1780. Originally it would have been made as a cooking pot, for use over a fire, but its condition is no longer good enough for it to be used. There is a repair around the base and the base is also dented and rippled. This can be seen in the images. Now it would make a lovely hanging jardiniere for a plant.
