Item Description
A lovely quality, early 19th century, Sunderland lustre jug. This is marked, in the transfer print beneath the ship “Dixon & Co. Sunderland Pottery”. This mark was only used from 1813 until 1819. The jug is lightly potted, in pearlware, and is decorated with pink lustre, and black transfer prints which are highlighted with polychrome enamels. To one side is the ship the Northumberland 74, under the spout is a female figure representing Hope and to the other side is a charming verse:
“A little Health a little Wealth,
A little House with Freedom:
And at the end a little Friend,
With little cause to need him.”
The jug is in excellent condition with just a little staining to the base which can be seen in the images.
