Item Details

A late 19th century, dust pressed tile by Wedgwood, printed in brown with “Niagara Falls from Prospect Point”. This is marked “JOSIAH WEDGWOOD & SONS ETRURIA” in the casting to the reverse of the tile. It is from a rare series of American views produced by Wedgwood and it dates from c.1890. The series is also known printed in blue. It is printed, in the bottom right hand corner, with the initials “J.Mc D & S” and would have been produced for sale by Jones McDuffee & Stratton Co, who were pottery merchants in Boston, and for whom Wedgwood also made a series of calendar tiles. There are some small chips to the edge of the tile but otherwise it is good condition.
Dimensions: 15.2cm square by 1cm thick.
