Item Details

A fine quality, 19th century English steel herb or vegetable chopper. This has a well carved oak handle, the style of which was used on saws. In the nineteenth century some saw manufacturers made kitchen choppers as a sideline but they used the same handles for both. Often the blades were marked with the manufacturers name. This one is not but it is very skilfully made and it dates from c.1860. The blade is nicely shaped and has diamond and hearts shape cut outs, perhaps to be given as a love token. It is in excellent condition.
