Item Description
A large, brass and steel milliners iron dating from c.1900. This type of iron was used for making flower and leaf shapes, out of felt or lace, for decorating hats. The fabric was washed, starched and then laid into the brass section. The steel section was heated and then pressed into the brass former and the fabric would be trimmed to form the outer shape of the flower. This example is in the shape of a six petalled flower. It is very well detailed and it is in excellent condition. Dimensions overall when the two parts are together: Length 22.2cm. Width 9cm. Height 6.3cm. Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £30. Most of Western Europe add £15.
