https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA very attractive, late 18th/ early 19th century copper wine or champagne cooler. This is French and dates somewhere between 1780 and 1820. It is made from quite a heavy gauge of copper, which has been hand beaten giving a slightly planished effect. It is nicely shaped, with a stepped foot above which is a reeded band and there is further ornamentation to the band around the rim. There are folding copper handles to either end. This was originally tinned so it was obviously made as a wine or champagne cooler rather than a jardiniere although it could be used as such. There is very minor denting, consistent with age and use, but generally it is in very good condition and it does still hold water. It is the perfect size for two bottles of champagne or three bottles of wine.
Dimensions: Length 36cm. Width 24cm. Height 17.2cm.
