Item Details

A nineteenth century steel cleaver in the shape of a horse. This is French and it dates from c.1880. The handle is made from a combination of horn and brass and this is attached with copper rivets. The horse is very primitively shaped and has a copper rivet as an eye. There is considerable pitting to the blade, from use, but otherwise the piece is in good condition.
Dimensions: Height 14cm. Length 30.5cm. Width of handle 1.8cm.
