Item Description

A fabulous quality, large, early 19th century, fruitwood biscuit mould carved with a heart. This is probably carved in chestnut although the fruitwoods can sometimes be difficult to tell apart. It is French and dates from c.1820. It is beautifully carved with roses and foliage within a large heart shape. I have been told that this type of mould was used for a particular biscuit which was baked for religious occasions but I can’t find any reference to this so, if any one knows of this, I would love to hear more. This is a superb example, with excellent detail and depth to the carving, and it is in very good condition. There are just a couple of short, tight hairlines in the rim, where the wood has dried out over the centuries, but they don’t go all the way through.
Dimensions: Height 38.5cm. Width 31.3cm. Thickness 2.5cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A.a add £30. Most of Western Europe add £15.
