Item Details

A large, late nineteenth century, French copper colander. This is possibly blacksmith made as it has quite a primitive form of handle and the copper has quite an unusual, textured, planished finish which is quite different to the pieces produced by the well known coppersmiths and manufacturers of the period. It is made from a substantial gauge of copper, has a rolled rim and dates from c.1880. It is in very good condition and the tinning to the interior, although dark, is still in good enough condition for occasional use.
