Item Details

A Minton, dust pressed tile transfer printed with one of the series of the Seasons. This is marked, in the casting to the reverse, “MINTONS CHINA WORKS STOKE ON TRENT” and it dates from c.1885. It also has the globe mark surrounded by “STOKE UPON TRENT. WALBROOK LONDON” with “MINTON” to the centre. It is printed, in shades of brown, grey and pale orangey brown, with a young man pushing a plough and the words “SPRING. PLOUGHING”. It is signed, in the bottom left hand corner, by “MOYR SMITH” who was responsible for many of Minton’s tile designs. The tile is in very good condition.
Dimensions: 15.2cm. square by 0.9cm. thick.
