Item Details

A rare pair of Wedgwood, pale green, jasper dip wall lights. One of these is marked “WEDGWOOD” but the other has escaped the marking process. They date from c.1895, when electric lighting was still in its early stages of use in houses and few could afford it. They were made, to special order, for a small stately home on the Norfolk/Lincolnshire border. We had a pair or these last year which had come from the same source. They are a charming shade of green and they are decorated, in white relief, with a scene depicting Pegasus, the winged horse, and various border designs and garlands. The reliefs are all very good quality. Due to the shape they would have been particularly difficult to fire without firing faults occurring and this is probably why Wedgwood didn’t continue with their production other than for the special order.
This pair are in excellent condition and they have been fully re-wired to modern standards and specification so the are ready to install.
Dimensions: One: (jasper section only) Width 22.5cm. Depth from wall 13.6cm. Height 17cm. Two: (jasper section only) Width 2cm. Depth from wall 14cm. Height 17.5cm. The variations in the size have occurred, in manufacture, due to sagging in the kiln
