https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA pair of early 19th century, Wedgwood Capriware candlesticks. These are marked “WEDGWOOD” and they date from c.1820. The black basalt bodies are decorated in raised enamels and gilding, with flowers in the Oriental manner. Wedgwood introduced this type of decoration in 1815, on both basalt and terracotta bodies, and named it “Capriware”. These are lovely examples and the decoration is still in good, bright condition. One of the candlesticks is in perfect condition but the other has been restored. There has been a clean break just beneath the sconce and this has been stuck back together. It is not easily noticeable.
Dimensions: Height 17.2cm. Diameter at the base 10.5cm.
