Item Details

A rare, 18th century double mortar. This is carved from a white marble which has grey veining. The marble is typical of Carrara marble from Northern Italy and the mortar dates from c.1780. We have never seen a double mortar like this before and it was probably made for use in an apothecary. There is some chipping to the marble, around the rim, but there are no cracks, so it could still be used.
Dimensions: Length 21.3cm. Width 11cm. Height 8.8cm.
