A rare, 18th century, Dutch decorated, English creamware platter. This platter, with its feather edge rim, dates from c.1780. It was possibly made by Leeds Pottery or Wedgwood, but it is unmarked. This style of platter was made by numerous potteries in the late 18th century. What is unusual about this example is that is must have been exported to the Netherlands where is was then decorated by one of the Delft potters and it is marked, on the reverse, with their monogram “AR” in blue. The platter is very boldly decorated in bright, polychrome enamels, with peacocks on branches. The decoration is beautifully executed and the colours are still very vibrant. This is an exceptional piece and it is generally in good condition. There are just a couple of tiny chips and minor wear to the rim.
