Item Details

A fabulous quality, 18th century, Wedgwood black basalt coffee pot with encaustic decoration. This is marked "WEDGWOOD" and it dates from c.1790. It is also impressed with a number but this has not been fully impressed and it could be either a 3 or an 8. The pot is very lightly potted, which is typical of the period. It is beautifully decorated, in green, white and iron red encaustic enamels. There is a band of oak leaves and acorns to the lid and the upper part of the coffee pot is painted with classical scrolls and flowers. Beneath this is a border of laurel leaves and berries. All of these designs are designs which Wedgwood also used in their relief decoration on jasper ware and basalt.
Both the pot and lid are in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Height 18cm. Width 15cm. Diameter 9cm.
