Item Description
A set of seven, 19th century, decorative, English copper saucepans on a wrought iron stand. This is a well matched set of pans but they are all purely decorative as they have not been re-tinned and the bases are not totally flat. They are all either a little convex or concave so they would not sit flat on a cooker. Other than this they are all in very good condition. The sizes range from 31cm. diameter by 18 cm deep down to 13cm. diameter by 9.5cm. deep and they are well graduated in between. The largest pan is stamped, to the base, with the orb and cross symbol used by Benhams. The second to largest, which measures 28cm. diameter, has a brass handle to the front to aid in lifting the pan when it is full, as it is a particularly heavy gauge of copper. The second to smallest pan, which has a replacement base, is marked “W.S.ADAMS & SON. IRONMONGER TO THE QUEEN. 57 HAYMARKET” and the smallest pan is marked “HARRODS STORES LIMITED LONDON”. All pf the pans are well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, have castellated seams and date from c.1860 to 1880. The wrought iron stand is a little later, dating from c.1900 and it measures 151cm. tall and has a spread on the base of 45cm.
