https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA fairly small, Sunderland lustre jug. This lightly potted, pearlware jug dates from c.1820. One side is printed with the verse
“Here’s Success attend the Farmer
And Success to the Fleece
May we be Taxed Less
And our commerce increase”
However, in the style or English at the time, where there is a double s the first one is written as an f.
The opposite side of the jug is printed with a view of the cast iron bridge but the print is quite worn. It is interesting in that above the bridge is a ribbon in which is the wording “A Present to” but the name has been left off. The prints are surrounded with pink lustre, and green and iron red enamels. There is very slight crazing to the glaze but other than that the jug is in very good condition.
