A beautifully carved, 19th century, sycamore breadboard. This is English and it dates from c.1860. The border is extremely well carved with cornucopias, wheat, barley and oak leaves. The carving is very deep and well detailed and still in excellent condition. There is scratching to the centre of the board, and also to the reverse, from use. It is quite obvious that the reverse of the board has been used for cutting far more than the face in order to preserve the wonderful carved border.
