Item Details

An unusual, 19th century sycamore breadboard carved with a rare motto. This is carved with “Sweet is the Bread of Contentment” in a Gothic style script against a stipple background. This is a motto that we have not seen on a breadboard before. The board is in very good condition with just the usual knife marks to both the face and the reverse, from use, and the wood has a nice, honey coloured patina.
Dimensions: Diameter 29.2cm. Depth 2.8cm.
