Item Details

A large, and very unusual, 19th century, English copper steamer. This would have been made for steaming vegetables in a very large kitchen. It is well made from a substantial gauge of copper, and it dates from c.1860. It has castellated seams up the sides and, judging from the way it is made, the base has probably been replaced at some time in its’ life. There are the standard, attractive form of English brass handles to either side of the base, and the steamer top, and a flat, copper, strap handle to the lid. The attachment on the side of the base allows for the water in the lower section to be re-filled without lifting the top section. We have not had a steamer in this form before. It is in very good condition but the tinning, to the interior, is slightly worn.
Dimensions: Height 41cm. Diameter 27.5cm. Width across the handles 37cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £50. Most of Western Europe add £25.
