Item Description
A very unusual, 19th century, French copper fish kettle or poacher. This was probably made, as a one off, for a specific use, as we have never seen the likes of it before. It is basically a salmon poacher but one end is extended so that you can pour from it. There is a drainer, as in regular fish kettles, so the fish could be lifted out, and then the cooking juices could be poured out of the pan. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper, has castellated seams and dates from c.1860. It has an unusual shaped, overhead handle which could indicate that the piece was made for use over an open fire. There is very minor denting to the copper but generally it is in very good condition. The tinning, to the interior, is worn, so it could no longer be used for cooking, but it would make an excellent planter and its rare shape would certainly make it a talking point.
Dimensions: Length 88cm. Width 16.4cm. Overall height including the steel handle 23cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £50. Most of Western Europe add £25.
