Item Details

A large, and very unusual, 19th century, French copper oven tray. We are not sure of the exact function of this piece. It could have been used as a baking tray or for standing other pans in, like a Bain Marie, but the indentations in the base would prevent the tray from making contact with the base of the oven so it could have been used right at the bottom of the oven. In a way they act as feet. It is made from a heavy gauge of copper, has substantial, copper ring handles to either side, and dates from c.1880. It is in very good condition and the interior has been re-tinned so that it can be used.
