Item Details

A nineteenth century, Wedgwood black basalt plaque. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1860. It is relief decorated with a female figure, from Greek mythology, holding a ball with a bird on it. I believe this represents Peitho, the goddess of persuasion, seduction and charming speech. The relief is deep and very well detailed and the plaque is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Height 19.3cm. Width 14.1cm. Depth 2cm.
