Item Details

A Wedgwood black basalt milk or cream jug. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1880. It is also impressed with a number ”36” which would be a batch number. The jug is moulded with a design which incorporates the emblems of the union of Scotland, Ireland and England, the thistle, the shamrock and the rose, hence it was known as the “Union Jug”.
It is in excellent condition.
