The dish is moulded with game birds which hang from garlands of grapes and vines. To the lid are more game birds and the finial is moulded in the shape of a rabbit. There is the tiniest chip to the rim of the dish but otherwise, all three parts are in very good condition so the piece could be used. Originally game stew would have been cooked in the liner and then it would be served in the dish which was made to resemble pastry.
