https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA Wedgwood Capriware coffee pot. Wedgwood started to produce what he called Capriware in 1815. It consisted of raised enamel and gilding, on either a terracotta or a basalt ground, to imitate the Chinese wares which were being imported at the time. It continued in production for over a century. This example is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with the letters “XDB” which is the date code for the year of production which is 1873. The enamelling is good quality and the terracotta body has a smooth finish. The finial on the lid has been off and is now re-glued, but it is not at all noticeable. Other than that it is in very good condition.
