This is marked ”WEDGWOOD” and it is also impressed with an indistinct date code which ends in the letters “MS”. This is the date code for the year of manufacture which is 1864. The soup plate is potted in a heavy creamware, which is known as late creamware, as the body is quite different to the early, lightly potted creamware of the 18th century. It is decorated with an outline transfer print in brown which is then hand coloured with bright, polychrome enamels. There is very slight flaking to the ochre enamel on the rim but otherwise it is in good condition.
