Item Details

A late 19th century, dust pressed tile by Wedgwood, printed in brown with a scene of Boston, Massachusetts. This is marked “JOSIAH WEDGWOOD & SONS ETRURIA” in the casting to the reverse of the tile. It is from a rare series of American views produced by Wedgwood and it dates from c.1890. The series is also known printed in blue. This example is printed with “Washington Statue, Jubilee Garden, Boston”. It is printed, in the bottom right hand corner, with the initials “J.Mc D & S” and would have been produced for sale by Jones McDuffee & Stratton Co, who were pottery merchants in Boston, and for whom Wedgwood also made a series of calendar tiles. There is a small chip to one corner but otherwise the tile is in very good condition.
Dimensions: 15.2cm square by 1cm thick.
