This wonderfully authentic 19th‑century French chopping block is carved from a solid elm tree trunk and raised on its original gnarled legs - a true piece of vernacular rural furniture. Made for daily use in a working kitchen, it carries the marks, wear and tactile history of generations.


Elm was prized for its density and resistance to splitting, making it the preferred timber for chopping blocks. Over time, the surface has developed a rich, time‑worn patina, with deep grain, natural fissures and the honest scars of its working life. These blocks now make exceptional decorative pieces, bringing warmth, texture and a sense of lived history to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
