Item Details

Rare Bon Voyage Tin from Dean’s of New York C1911. Wonderful mock wicker “Bon Voyage Box” from Dean’s of 5th Ave New York. These would have been taken on journeys filled with Dean’s cakes, candies and other delicious delicacies to ensure freshness. One of the catchphrases being “Dean’s helps you say goodbye”. Dean’s was a fancy bakery established in 1839 in New York. We’ve included an advertising image from 1911 showing the box as it was intended and an image of the store on 5th Avenue. The tins were made in Germany exclusively for Dean’s. It’s an extremely attractive piece of pressed painted tin with a faded red wicker effect with a rather elegant carry handle to the top. It’s of a fair size and is in good historic order with overall fading to the colour, no rusting and one very small split to the tin close to one of the handles on top otherwise a jolly splendid and charming piece.
