This decorative pair of 19^th Century Oak Wall Sconces / Shelves were once part of a capital on a column in the orangery at Sennowe Hall in Norfolk. Fabulous time aged patina to the oak and paintwork.

Capitals are decorative supports that sit on top of the shaft of a column below any architrave/frieze/cornice.

Sennowe Hall was originally built by Thomas Wodhouse in 1774 who had inherited the estate from his aunt Mary Bacon in 1760.  The house was sold in 1850 and  underwent some remodelling by Decimus Burton in 1855 when an upper floor was added.  The house was sold to Thomas Cook in 1898 who commissioned the Edwardian architect George Skipper who extensively remodelled and extended the property which is the house that stands today.
