A late 19th-century Grand Tour souvenir hand coloured print or lithograph replicating two famous ancient Roman wall frescoes discovered in the ruins of Pompeii.


 


By L. Majolino, a Naples-based publisher, artist, and printmaker known for producing hand-coloured pochoir illustrations, lithographs, and engravings of antique Roman frescoes, mosaics, and artifacts from Pompeii.
These whimsical illustrations of animals and mythical beasts acting out human scenarios were a popular genre of Roman decorative art known as grotesques.
