Based on the design of similar side chairs, but of stouter proportions, it has two steam bent arms, of pleasing shape, attached, or ‘applied’ to the backrest and seat, hence the name that is commonly given to this design of chair. Faux bamboo legs, blind morticed into the elm seat of a waisted shape, the backrest of elliptical hand drawn spindles, pegged into the front of the hoop and with the added support of a twin spindle brace behind. The whole piece in a nice pale colour. Yealmpton, Devon, c.1830s. With repairs as shown. Seat height: 40cm Ref (0804)
