Item Description

A hand-coloured Georgian map of Cornwall by Samuel John Neele (1763-1824) of The Strand, London and probably published by John Wilkes. The first thing that struck me was the orientation of the map - presumably executed like this to be included in a book or journal. It makes for quite a striking image of the county though and the colours are wonderfully vibrant, especially when compared to similar examples from the period. Note ‘Truroe’ and others! Framed and glazed in an early 20th century Hogarth style frame. Map circa 1800.
