French Hand-Forged Iron Candelabrum


A 20th-century French hand-forged iron candelabra with three scalloped dishes and prickets, the outer arms incorporating stylised cockerels cut from sheet iron. The irregularities in the forging and the naive treatment of the cockerels are characteristic of vernacular metalwork, with each element individually worked and assembled rather than produced to a standard pattern. The result is a piece with a strong sense of the maker's hand.
